The plumbing industry for 50 years

Hello and welcome to TermoRens AS

This year I have been in the plumbing industry for 50 years and will probably soon be like a fossil and rain, but a big advantage of fossils is that they have long experience. I studied plumbing with Norway’s first female master plumber, Mrs Markussen in Drammen, which was a fireworks display by a woman, and clearly the old woman against the current at the time. Eventually I took over this company which still exists, but after taking a master’s certificate and the technician, I went over as sales manager at Witt and Borgen in Oslo, and later to director of Blucher AS in Siljan. Nothing is impossible for God and a plumber, so in 1994 I started TermoRens AS which I still run and which is currently growing strongly both at home and abroad.

Legionella protection

Legionella protection was seriously put on the map after the great eruption in Stavanger in 2001. Several died and many became ill. In retrospect, there have been several serious outbreaks and the dark numbers are large, but there are still many who do not take this seriously. The plumbing consultants are the best in their class who now describe solutions for legionella insurance on new projects. Many property owners, housing associations and a number of municipalities are far behind. It simply seems that they are not aware of their responsibilities. I myself travel around Norway and inform and hold meetings. As a rule, I ask if “… you take at least water samples?”. When I then get the answer that “We do not dare, we can have bacteria” or that “no, it’s far too expensive” then you get a little upset. They should really be fired when you put others in danger.

What to choose?

There are many solutions that are offered so it is not always easy to know what to choose. Having worked with legionella for 20 years now, I claim that I know a lot about this because we have experience with and have worked with all the methods. We take care of legionella insurance on almost a thousand buildings around the country and Legionella is everywhere. Therefore a my opinion as follows.

Pipes, parts, showers, filters etc that are sold as legionella-free… .forget it. The bacteria build up inside the plant in scale, bottom pans in boilers and in places coating and low water velocity.

Hot water flushing very poor and short-lived effect. The bacteria are protected by coatings in the pipes and reappear quickly and the level rises after a few days. Exceptions for fairly new facilities without biofilm.

Coating on porcelain after copper / silver treatment

Termorens AS has long had a presence in all sectors.

UV systems have we dismantled many of. In theory good enough, but in practice bad effect over time. No matter what material the UV lights are placed in such as stainless steel, titanium or plastic, it is the UV rays that will do the job. They can only do this when the lamps are clean and the water speed is low. This is far from the case when they are allowed to stand in peace and quiet for a long time as they often do.

Kobber / Sølv

Copper / silver is efficient and we have delivered some of these (ICA). The problem here is that a certain amount of copper and silver is constantly added, which creates problems further out in the facilities. Porcelain is colored turquoise or black, coatings on autoclaves and ceramic discs, heavy metals are not broken down in the body and some may be allergic. We have therefore completely opted out of this method, which is also being discussed in the EU and which many believe will eventually be banned.

Hydrogen peroxide is a strong oxidizing agent and effective against bacteria. Requires great care during treatment as the liquid has a strong corrosive effect on the skin. We deliver as described but do not stock as the product has a relatively short shelf life

Bacsan is a solution that contains copper and silver in ionic form. Add the entire water flow continuously. Effective, but again an additive we do not like.

Chlorine dioxide is efficient and we supply plants produced by GrunBeck in Germany. Here, hydrochloric acid and chlorine are constantly added to the entire water flow into the building. The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has set a limit for how much you can dose, which in turn affects the effect. There are strict requirements for treatment and storage of the chemicals. We provide this method but do not recommend it.

Chlorine dioxide plant

Anodic oxidation is efficient and the only plant that really works without additives. The process takes place by splitting oxygen and hydrogen in a chamber. The bacteria are eliminated inside the chamber. Water in and out of the chamber has the same water quality. If desired, the effect can also be set up so that chlorine in the water is used for hypochlorite which removes biofilm and bacteria. This is the only method I know that does the job without additives so when I am asked I recommend it. As general manager of TermoRens who uses both anodic oxidation and chlorine dioxide for legionella protection I am fully aware of and could seem biased here. That, I am not. This is based on my experience and knowledge over many years.

Cleaning of pipe systems

I myself have built and demolished many lighthouses and sanitary facilities and seen what pipes, boilers, boilers and other equipment look like inside. What I reflected on then was that all the equipment was just as good, just full of shit or scale with a nicer word. Rust and rust tubers, humus, lime and a lot of other fun settle inside the plants and create problems. The coating prevents heat and cold transfer so you have to spend a lot more energy on and keep these going. When boilers, heat exchangers, radiators, heating coils no longer worked well enough, they were just replaced. Simple and expensive. Legionella bacteria also thrive in these coatings. Here they thrive and are allowed to develop in peace and quiet despite hot water flushing and other wasteful measures. Termorens cleaning fluid was developed to solve these problems. This is a completely green and environmentally friendly concentrate that is dosed into heating / cooling systems and which removes all batteries and coatings all the way back to liquid form. After use, the system is rinsed with clean water and full power is back again. If people knew what the pipes for domestic water looked like inside, most people would probably buy bottled water. We clean a lot of water pipes in blocks, factories, oil platforms etc and it is almost as bad everywhere. With Termorens cleaning fluid, all growths and bacteria are also removed in drinking water pipes. Watch film clips on banners that are from showers in apartment blocks.
